A lumbar epidural steroid injection is a non-surgical treatment method for the management of lower back and radicular pain. The technique was initially utilized in the 1950s as an alternate approach for sciatica and lumbar pain.The purpose of this procedure is to inject a steroid medication into affected nerves as a means of reducing inflammation.
