What are Stem Cells?

Stem cells are undifferentiated cells that have the potential to become specialized types of cells. Stem cells can be categorized as embryonic stem cells or adult stem cells. Embryonic stem cells are derived from a human fetus; there are many ethical concerns with embryonic stem cells, and these are not used in our practice.

Stem Cells are the seeds that grow into new muscle, tendon, ligament, cartilage and bone. These primitive cells are stored in our bodies in several places but they are very rich and easily accessible in bone marrow. In the case of PRP-Therapy, a few local stem cells can be triggered to help rebuild damaged tissue and more may trickle in over time. When Stem cells are actively harvested from bone marrow, concentrated in a centrifuge and mixed with a PRP injection, the results can be much more profound. This is because many thousands more cells are directly introduced to the injured area which can result in much faster and more extensive repair.
